How Will You Die?
by Wayne Everett Harris
Will somebody shoot you? Will you die from some dreaded disease? Maybe you will fall off of a waterfall. Who knows for sure?
One young fellow said, “I will die in a nursing home from cancer.”
I asked, “Why would you say that?”
He replied, “I have been in several car crashes and did not die. I think I will be old and die of cancer.”
A young lieutenant was driving home from his promotion party when a drunk driver crashed into his car. The lieutenant was pinned in by his own car engine. Within minutes he was gone. He had a bright future, according to the military commander who had toasted him minutes before. The day was sunny and he had everything to live for. Unfortunately, a drunk driver took his future away.
The truth is we usually do not know when we are going to die. Nobody expects the chute to not open. Buddy Holly did not expect his airplane to crash. Those people in the World Trade Center towers on September 11, 2001 never expected a terrorist-flown airplane to kill them.
We simply do not know. What we do know is that we will die. Everyone will die sooner or later. There is an appointed day for you to die. No man or woman knows the hour or the day. There are exceptions. Someone committing suicide can be fairly sure. One with a terminal disease may have a ballpark idea. But, ordinarily, we do not know.
The purpose of what I have to say is to stress the urgency. The urgency has to do with making your peace with God, becoming right with the Lord God of heaven. The reason: if you are right with God when you die you will be with Him in heaven. If not, the Bible tells us your destination is HELL.
It is urgent that you get right with God because you could die any second. A friend of mine ran on his treadmill, stopped and rested. His heart went into cardiac arrest and he died. Instantly, without warning, he was gone. If he was not right with God it was too late.
A soldier had the flu. After he got better he did PT (Physical Training). He was in his twenties and seemed healthy. After PT he leaned against the wall watching some fellow soldiers train. Suddenly, his eyes rolled back and he fell to the ground. When I arrived at the emergency room to pray with him his body had a bluish tint. He was already dead. Was he ready? I do not know. Did he know Jesus Christ as his Savior? I do not know. I pray so. I hope so. But only God knows.
How ready are you? Have you asked Jesus Christ into your heart? Have you turned away from sin and turned to God? There is no better time to give your heart to Jesus than now. Tomorrow may never come. “Lord Jesus, forgive me of my sins and come into my heart. I turn to You. I believe You died for my sins and resurrected from the grave so that I might have eternal life. I turn my life over to You, Jesus. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

You can live with God forever or forever be separated from Him. Seek Him. Cry out to Him. He will answer you. He loves you. Read John 3:16 in the Bible. Jesus saves.
